The Benevolent Society engages in public campaigns to support the needs and rights of the most vulnerable in our community.
Many social benefits that have made our society stronger and more supportive have come as a result of public campaigning – such as the campaign for the old age pension (which The Benevolent Society initiated in 1895), and campaigns for equal pay, as well as campaigns to recognise the rights of single parents.
Current campaigns
Australians for Affordable Housing – The Benevolent Society is part of a national coalition campaigning for solutions to the high levels of housing stress experienced by many Australians – especially families with children and older people.
Age Well – The Benevolent Society supports a national alliance of organisations that are campaigning for the Federal Government to begin the reforms recommended by the Productivity Commission in the Caring for Older Australians report.
